Recently, my friend Richard organized a small rock festival at a cultural center near my house, and asked me to help out by assisting the girl in charge of collecting tickets at the entrance. I accepted, but I was not very enthusiastic, since bad weather was forecast for that night.
About an hour before the event, the rain began to fall, and although the festival was in the courtyard of the venue, it was decided to go ahead with the show.
As the night progressed and the rain became heavier, I did my best to avoid getting wet by taking shelter on a small railing next to the entrance. It was then that I noticed, against the white wall, a small, withered weed with one of its stems broken, whose silhouette reminded me of the figure of Don Quixote of La Mancha, with his broken lance. I thought about coming back at another time with my camera, in daylight and once the rain had stopped, to take a photo of it, as I thought it would be a good subject for a new work.
After thinking about it for a while, fearing that someone from the crowd entering and leaving the venue might step on or pluck the weed, I decided to take a photo of it right there with my smartphone. When I got home, I immediately got to work, and with the help of some textures, I created what I titled "The Twilight of Quixote".
That weed standing against the wall like the last vestige of life amidst the storm reminded me of the fragility of life, and those hours I spent under the bad weather proved it to me, as I ended up with an ear and throat infection. But I believe it was worth it.
